Profit Inc
Profit Inc offers a service designed to help mid-sized businesses enhance their profitability and overall business value. They use a proprietary analysis tool called Pi.Q, which breaks down income statements to determine the profitability of various aspects of the business, such as customer segments, product lines, and sales teams. The service provides actionable insights by allocating expenses to specific demographics within the business, allowing companies to identify which areas are most profitable and which may need improvement.
Project Description
For this project, the goal was to create a user-centric platform that seamlessly delivers powerful financial insights to mid-sized businesses. The platform needed to be intuitive, non-intrusive, and efficient, enabling users to easily upload financial data, receive detailed profitability analyses, and make informed business decisions.
The Challenge
Profit Inc. targets a diverse range of users, from financial professionals to business owners with varying levels of technical expertise. The challenge was to design a platform that simplifies complex financial analysis while ensuring accuracy and depth. Additionally, the interface had to manage sensitive financial data securely and present insights in a way that is both comprehensive and easily digestible.

Design Process
1. Research and Discovery
To understand user needs, I conducted interviews with potential users, including CFOs, business owners, and financial consultants. The key findings led to the development of three primary user personas:
The CFO: Needs detailed, accurate data to make high-level strategic decisions.
The Business Owner: Looks for quick insights to understand overall business health.
The Financial Consultant: Requires customizable and exportable reports to advise clients.
These personas guided the design process, ensuring that the platform catered to the specific needs and expectations of each user group.
2. Wireframing and Prototyping
The design process began with low-fidelity wireframes to map out the user flow and basic structure of the platform. Key screens included:
Dashboard: A central hub displaying a summary of key insights, recent analyses, and alerts.
Data Upload: A simple, guided process for users to securely upload their financial data.
Analysis Report: A detailed, yet easy-to-navigate report with visual aids like graphs and charts.
After feedback from stakeholders, I developed high-fidelity prototypes using tools like Figma. These prototypes were tested with users to refine the interface and ensure it met their needs.
3. User Testing and Feedback
The platform was launched as a beta version to a select group of users. Feedback was gathered through surveys and interviews, leading to several iterations:
Enhanced Customization: Users wanted more control over how data was displayed, leading to the addition of more granular filtering options.
Improved Onboarding: Some users struggled with the initial data upload, so I introduced a more detailed onboarding guide and video tutorials.
4. Visual Design
The visual design followed a clean, professional aesthetic with a focus on readability and accessibility. Key elements included:
Color Palette: A neutral color scheme with accents of green and blue to signify financial health and growth.
Typography: A mix of modern, sans-serif fonts for clarity and professionalism.
Icons and Graphics: Intuitive icons to represent different analysis tools and clear, informative graphics to visualize data.
